Winnie Odinga Denies Falling Out With Senator Oburu Oginga

EALA MP Winnie Odinga has dismissed claims that she is on bad terms with her uncle, Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga, who also serves as the leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Speaking on Saturday, December 13, Winnie said she has never clashed with Oburu and has no intention of doing so, emphasizing that her loyalty remains firmly with him.

She explained that Oburu is not only her political leader within ODM but also her uncle and the head of their family following the death of her father, the late Raila Odinga.

As such, she said she remains aligned with him and would not associate herself with any faction that excludes his leadership.

Winnie further acknowledged that differences of opinion are inevitable within a large political party such as ODM, given its expansive membership across the country.

However, she noted that such disagreements do not undermine the party’s unity or confidence in its current leadership, adding that cohesion and collective engagement remain central to strengthening the party and ensuring it represents all regions of Kenya.

The clarification comes weeks after Winnie appeared to question Oburu’s ability to steer ODM following the exit of Raila Odinga.

During the party’s 20th anniversary celebrations in Mombasa in October, she suggested that no current leader possessed the political acumen her late father had demonstrated, particularly in managing ODM’s engagement within the broad-based government.

She subsequently called for a National Delegates Conference to allow party members to elect new leadership.

Oburu responded by defending his readiness to lead, citing decades of close political partnership with Raila and a deep understanding of his strategies, while also indicating he would engage Winnie privately to address the matter.
