The investigations into the death of British national Edgar Riches, 79, who died on March 13, 2025, after being struck by a vehicle in President William Ruto’s motorcade, have come to an end.
According to reports, the evidence showed that the deceased was lawfully crossing Ngong Road in Nairobi when the government vehicle hit him.

The inquest heard that the motorcade, which was taking Ruto to a public engagement in Nairobi, did not stop after the collision.
Additionally, no police car or ambulance responded to the scene immediately.

Further reports indicate that Richie was utilising a designated pedestrian crossing.
However, the driver of the vehicle failed to yield and was travelling at an excessive speed.
The UK inquest relied on a post-mortem report and a brief statement from the Office of the Inspector General for the National Police Service after a review of CCTV footage.
According to the evidence, the collision was primarily caused by the driver’s failure to yield and speeding, given the location.
The vehicle involved was a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado belonging to the Ministry of the Interior.
Regarding the case, the driver was charged with causing death by dangerous driving.
The driver reportedly pleaded guilty in court on March 15, 2025, and was fined Ksh100,000.
The coroner ruled the death a road traffic collision, stating there was sufficient evidence to conclude the circumstances despite gaps in information from Kenya.
However, family members claimed that justice was not served, especially in the penalty issued and the manner in which the incident was handled.
