Police in Muhoroni, Kisumu County, have launched a manhunt for a gang of eight people who carjacked a public service vehicle they hired while posing as mourners from Sunday’s burial of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
According to reports, the five men and three women had hired the matatu from Bondo and requested to be ferried to Kericho.
According to a police report, they negotiated with the driver, who agreed to charge them Ksh. 8,000 for the trip.
After the negotiations, the car left Bondo at 8.00 am the stopped at Ahero as the passengers claimed they wanted a water break.
At around 10.00 pm, one of the suspects hit the driver with a blunt object, then left at the roadside, making a way with Ksh.16, 000 and a phone and other belongings to the driver.
