Suspected Al-Shabaab militants reportedly attacked Abakaile Village in Garissa County, targeting a telecommunications mast before fleeing the area, with a teacher reported missing in the aftermath.
According to preliminary reports, the attackers attempted to destroy the communications mast, prompting security agencies to launch a manhunt while simultaneously searching for the missing teacher.
Authorities have not established whether the teacher was abducted by the militants or became separated from others while escaping the attack.

Security officers have since been deployed to Abakaile Village to investigate the attempted sabotage of the telecommunications infrastructure and determine the circumstances surrounding the teacher’s disappearance.
By the time of publication, neither the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) nor the National Police Service (NPS) had issued an official statement confirming the incident or providing details on the ongoing search and investigations.
The incident comes days after another suspected Al-Shabaab attack in neighbouring Mandera County, renewing concerns over increased militant activity in Kenya’s northeastern region, where the group has frequently targeted civilians, security personnel and critical infrastructure near the Somalia border.
