Gor Mahia coach Sinisa Mihic has called on the club’s passionate fans, known as the “Green Army,” to fill Nyayo National Stadium this Sunday for an exciting clash against arch-rivals AFC Leopards in the first leg of the FKF Premier League.
This highly anticipated ‘Mashemeji’ derby, which has been postponed twice due to venue issues, is set to spark the spirit of rivalry. Mihic will experience his first derby since his appointment in February.
In his initial five matches, the Croatian coach has led the team to three victories and two draws, rallying K’Ogalo to rise to the challenge, even though they have yet to display their full potential.
“We don’t know how they will prepare, and they don’t know how we will prepare. The players are already aware of what we want and how we want it,” Mihic stated.
He expressed confidence in the upcoming match by saying,
“It’s a big derby, and it’s something new for me, but I am focused on my team’s performance. We want to win every day; we want the title. According to previous statistics, we are the favorites in this game, and we will win.”
As they head into the derby, Gor Mahia has the advantage, having recorded 31 wins and 34 draws out of the 92 encounters between the two teams.
Gor Mahia FC captain Philemon Otieno urged fans from both clubs to maintain peace during this period.
“It’s a big game and one of the biggest in the country,” he said. “I expect a tough match, considering that AFC Leopards are doing well at the moment. We can’t underestimate them; we must put up a good fight. I urge all fans to maintain peace during, before, and after the match.”
