Nyandarua Senator John Methu has shed light on why the United Opposition has not yet settled on a presidential candidate.
Speaking on Wednesday, March 4, Methu explained that the opposition is currently prioritizing engagement with the public rather than mobilizing political crowds, noting that the official campaign period has not started.
He further addressed his stance on President William Ruto, revealing that although he supported Ruto in the past election, he is dissatisfied with the president’s performance in office.

According to Methu, Ruto’s leadership has fallen short of the promises made to the electorate, prompting continued scrutiny from members of the opposition.
Methu also suggested that President Ruto seems to have accepted the likelihood of serving only one term in office.
He added that the president’s current policies appear aimed at creating challenges for his successor.
This comes days after People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua, on Friday, February 27, downplayed the significance of the UDA’s clean sweep in the recent by-elections.
Speaking in Naivasha, Karua noted that success in the by-elections does not automatically translate into victory in the 2027 General Election.
She accused President Ruto, who also serves as UDA party leader, of manipulating the by-election results in favour of the ruling party.
Karua pledged to challenge Ruto decisively in the upcoming presidential race scheduled for August next year.
Karua also reaffirmed that leaders of the United Alternative Government would agree on a single presidential candidate and unite behind them.
She emphasized that Kenya’s redemption would require a complete overhaul of the UDA system, urging the United Opposition to work toward removing all leaders elected under the Wheelbarrow party.
