The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has confirmed that President Ruto has been mandated to spearhead structured negotiations with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ahead of the 2027 general election.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, January 14, UDA said its National Executive Committee (NEC) acknowledged ODM’s move to formalise talks aimed at strengthening the Kenya Kwanza Coalition ahead of the polls.
The party noted that ODM’s Central Management Committee had resolved to initiate structured negotiations with UDA as part of efforts to reinforce their political partnership and work towards a coalition agreement ahead of the 2027 elections.

The NEC further stated that President Ruto, who is also the UDA party leader, has been tasked with establishing the framework and mechanisms for the engagement to ensure the talks achieve their intended objectives.
UDA further observed that the partnership’s achievements have helped consolidate relations between the two sides in preparation for the polls.
This development comes days after ODM announced plans to open talks with other political parties, starting with UDA, ahead of the 2027 General Election.
In a statement released on Monday, January 12, the party’s Central Committee said it had assigned the ODM Party Leader the responsibility of steering the negotiation process.
The committee explained that the talks would run concurrently with internal consultations among party members, with the process ultimately feeding into the National Delegates Convention.
It also noted that with the general election approaching next year, immediate and structured preparations were necessary to ensure the party is fully ready for the polls.
