Kenya Railways Reveals Transport Plan to Support AFCON 2027

Kenya Railways has announced major railway developments under the Nairobi Commuter Rail Service as part of Kenya’s preparations to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

In a statement on Wednesday, the corporation confirmed plans to improve rail connectivity to key match venues, including Nyayo National Stadium, Talanta Sports City and Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

Among the plan is the proposed construction of a railway station adjacent to Nyayo National Stadium, alongside a new spur line running from Nairobi Central Station through the Nyayo Stadium area and Kibera, extending towards Talanta Sports City.

Kenya Railways noted that the Nairobi Central–Limuru commuter corridor has been identified as a viable route for the spur line, which is expected to play a critical role during the continental showpiece.

The corporation added that the project will enhance mobility for fans, officials and workers during the tournament while easing pressure on road transport within the city.
