Ruto Purchases Bull Worth Ksh700,000 at Nairobi Trade Fair

President William Ruto made headlines on Wednesday, October 1, after purchasing a bull for Ksh700,000 during an auction at the Nairobi International Trade Fair, held at the Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) Jamhuri Showground.

The Head of State, who was accompanied by Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, was among the top bidders at the livestock auction on the fair’s opening day.

Ruto placed the highest bid for a 720-kilogram Borana bull, and with no other competitors challenging his offer, he secured ownership of the prized animal.

This was not the President’s first attempt to acquire livestock at the event.

Earlier, he had bid Ksh300,000 for another Borana bull weighing 655 kilograms, but his offer was surpassed when Governor Sakaja raised the stakes and eventually won the bid at Ksh500,000.

The spirited exchange between the two leaders drew excitement among attendees, highlighting the significance of the auction in promoting Kenya’s agricultural sector and showcasing the value of quality livestock.

In another round, Ruto placed a bid of Sh400,000 for a 635-kilogram bull.

However, he was outbided by Agriculture Principal Secretary Paul Ronoh with a Sh600,000 bid.

Kagwe also secured a 630-kilogram bull at Sh600,000.

Several exhibitors and visitors turned up for the trade fair, which ran from September 29 to October 5, 2025.

Notably this is not the first time Ruto has turned public heads for buying livestock at the highest prices or making big purchases.

On September 4, he spent Ksh 1 million on a bull during a livestock auction in Mombasa, where Mombasa governor Abdulswamad Nassir and other leaders were in attendance.
