Former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju, has resurfaced twenty four hours after he was reported missing.
Speaking to the press on Monday, March 23, 2026, the former CS claimed that he abandoned his vehicle after realising that he was being followed by unmarked vehicles.
According to Tuju, a suspicious vehicle began trailing him on Friday evening, prompting him to drive to Karen Police Station to report the matter.
Despite that, the same vehicle resumed trailing him the following day while going for a radio interview.
Tuju noted that the vehicles had no number plates.
“On Saturday evening, I was supposed to go for a radio interview, and then again, the same vehicle, a Land Cruiser, started following me. This time, a little bit more concerning was that the vehicle didn’t have number plates. Having experienced how close to 20 police land rovers came to my place, and some of them did not have number plates, I get worried”, Tuju said.
“I had my aide by my side and because I know Karen well and they were closing in, I branched to Nandi Road, where they were unable to reach because of the road structure and that is how I lost them and decided since I was being followed and I had reported the incident to the police I abndoned the vehicle there,” he added.
The former CS further went to seek shelter in a home belonging to a family living near the Nairobi–Kiambu border since he was unable to seek refugee in a police station.
“My family is very traumatised, and Kenyans of goodwill are traumatised, and I consider myself just blessed because I know there are Kenyans in unmarked graves”, he further said.
