The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has cautioned Kenyans against fake traffic offence notices and payment receipts being used to deceive motorists into paying fraudulent fines.
In a notice, the authority urged the public to watch out for printed documents falsely presented as official traffic violation notices.
According to NTSA, fraudsters are using fake documents bearing the Authority’s name and logo, complete with handwritten details of alleged traffic offences and demands for specific fines.
“Watch out for fake traffic offence notices and payment receipts,” NTSA warned motorists.
Additionally, the authority urged Kenyans to remain vigilant and verify the authenticity of any traffic-related documents.
The warning follows concerns about receiving suspicious notices claiming they had committed traffic offences and directing them to make instant payments.
Reports indicate that the operation targets motorists driving under the influence of alcohol, operating vehicles with expired driving licences, using vehicles with expired inspection stickers, and driving without valid insurance.
