Night Demolition Levels Million-Shilling Businesses Near Nyayo Stadium

Several businesses and properties worth millions were razed during a night operation on Tuesday, January 13, around the Nyayo area to make way for a new infrastructure project.

Photos shared online showed bulldozers and excavators demolishing structures while police officers monitored the operation.

The demolitions took place along Douglas Wakiihiru Road, behind the Nyayo National Stadium, and affected various establishments, including car yards, a car wash, restaurants, and other businesses.

Reports indicate that some of the businesses affected by the night operation were linked to a county governor.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the government had issued multiple notices urging businesses in the area to vacate prior to the operation.

Despite these warnings, the demolitions went ahead as planned.

The exercise is part of preparations for a major infrastructure project, which involves the construction of a train station designed to connect Nairobi’s Central Business District with Nyayo Stadium and the upcoming Talanta Stadium.
