Gachagua Rebuts Ruto’s Claims on Youth Involvement in His Security

The DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua has responded to President William Ruto’s criticism over his call for young people to provide him protection during public events.

Taking to his official social accounts on Tuesday, January 13, Gachagua accused the President of deploying goons to disrupt his public gatherings.

The former DP argued that if Ruto is uncomfortable with youths stepping in to protect leaders, he should refrain from allegedly sending individuals to attack him and interfere with his meetings.

Gachagua further urged the Head of State to engage the purported goons in lawful economic activities instead of using them to disrupt political events and places of worship.

Speaking in Samburu County on Tuesday, President Ruto criticized Gachagua for allegedly asking young people to provide him with protection during political events, questioning the wisdom of involving youths in personal security matters.

The President warned that such actions could expose young people to unnecessary danger and misuse them as informal bodyguards while leaders continue with their political activities.

Notably the remarks come days after Gachagua claimed his safety was at risk following the withdrawal of his state security and appealed to the government to reinstate his protection, citing his senior political status and nationwide support.
