President William Ruto is set to unveil new uniforms for General Duty Police Officers on Friday, August 28, during the pass-out parade of 6,000 police recruits at the Kiganjo Police Training College.
Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja announced the planned unveiling on Tuesday, August 25, saying the new uniforms will replace the current navy-blue attire.
The change follows a public participation exercise conducted by the National Police Service (NPS) after the navy-blue design was rejected.

In August 2023, the NPS invited members of the public to participate in the selection of a new uniform by giving their views and voting for their preferred designs.
Kanja noted that the approved design will be reintroduced to General Duty Police Officers in the coming weeks, with the Inspector General expected to start wearing the new uniform from Monday.
The new attire will be rolled out progressively to officers across the country.
President Ruto will preside over Friday’s pass-out parade, where 6,000 police constables recruited during the nationwide exercise held on November 17, 2025, will graduate.
Ahead of the graduation, the NPS has also reminded the recruits to exercise caution when using social media as they begin their careers.
NPS spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga warned the recruits against sharing sensitive operational information or content that could compromise the privacy and dignity of victims and suspects.
The recruits were also urged to maintain professionalism and discretion when posting, commenting, sharing content or livestreaming on their personal social media accounts.
The NPS said protecting operational information, the privacy of victims and suspects, and the integrity of ongoing investigations would remain a key responsibility for the new officers.
