Murkomen Warns of Security Risks Amid Rising Political Activities

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, appeared before the National Assembly to address the state of national security on Thursday, February 12, 2026.

According to Murkomen, the overall security situation on the county remains generally stable.

He then claimed that Kenya is experiencing heightened political activity ahead of the 2027 General Elections

“The country is experiencing a heightened political activity ahead of the 2027 General Elections, carrying inherent security risks, am particularly for criminal elements and hired goons whose tool of trade is violence against opponents”, Murkomen said.

Murkomen said that although political engagement is a fundamental of democracy, certain engagements were worrying from a security standpoint.

The CS warned that the disinformation and misinformation campaigns propagated through are also raising security concerns as they are probably used to create panic to the community.

Murkomen therefore outlined measures that the government has taken to enhance public safety and preparedness ahead of polls.

Among the measures outlined was recruitment and training of 10,000 police constables to be deployed across the country to provide additional manpower.

According to him, the move will seek to strengthen law enforcement and ensure adequate coverage.

Additionally, the state is enhancing collaboration through regional and international co-operation forums such as Interpol, facilitating transnational coordination operations and exchange of best practices in tackling crimes.

He further said that there will be modernization of police equipment and infrastructure.
