Hussein Mohammed Lauds Grassroots Football Over Aderine Kibet’s Success

Adrine Kibet

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Hussein Mohammed has praised the role of grassroots football in shaping the future of Kenyan talent, following the remarkable rise of Aderine Kibet.

The young attacker, who honed her skills through school competitions and community programs, has become a symbol of what structured youth development can achieve.

Kibet’s journey from local pitches to international recognition highlights the importance of nurturing talent at the earliest stages. His performances have drawn attention abroad, proving that Kenya’s grassroots system can produce players ready for the global stage.

Alongside Kibet, Amos Wanjala has also emerged as a standout prospect. His leadership at youth level and recent move abroad underline the growing opportunities for Kenyan players.

Football Kenya Federation President Hussein Mohammed, went on his X account to praise Kibet and Wanjala for their remarkable careers, so far, in Europe.

He emphasised that these successes are not isolated, but part of a broader trend driven by investment in grassroots football.

“The remarkable progress of Aldrine Kibet and Amos Wanjala in Europe is a testament to the immense talent pool we have in Kenya. Identified and scouted directly from school games, their success stories highlight the effectiveness of grassroots football development initiatives. In line with our manifesto, we remain committed to nurturing and developing young talent at the grassroots,” he said in part.

Collins Sichenje join UK club

Several other Kenyan internationals have recently secured moves to English clubs, with Collins Sichenje’s move to Charlton Athletiic being the biggest story in the country for the past week.

His progress reflects the increasing confidence European clubs have in Kenyan talent.

Adding to the excitement, Job Ochieng made his debut for Spanish side Real Sociedad, becoming one of the few Kenyans to feature in La Liga.

His achievement further validates the grassroots system that nurtured him, and inspires younger players to dream bigger.

Hussein Mohammed’s remarks underscore a new era for Kenyan football. With Kibet, Wanjala, Obiero, Sichenje, and Ochieng blazing the trail, grassroots football is proving to be the foundation of Kenya’s future success.

The FKF president insists that continued investment in youth programs will ensure more stars rise from local pitches to international arenas.
