Mudavadi Announces 2032 Presidential Bid

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has announced his ambition to run for President in the 2032 General Election, while firmly committing to support President William Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027.

Speaking during an interview on August 23, Mudavadi made it clear that his 2032 goal is for the top seat, ruling out any possibility of serving as a running mate in that election cycle.

He emphasized that his backing of President Ruto in 2027 is unconditional and not motivated by expectations of any government position in return.

His declaration comes a week after he launched the Magharibi Movement, a grassroots political initiative aimed at consolidating support for President Ruto in Kenya’s Western region ahead of the 2027 polls.

The movement brings together political and community leaders from Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia, Vihiga, and Trans Nzoia counties.

According to Mudavadi, the movement has already begun mobilizing at the sub-county level, with representatives from 12 sub-counties in Kakamega County forming the initial structure of a grassroots network.

The immediate priority of the movement is to drive voter registration in the Western region, with Mudavadi arguing that increased political participation will give the area greater influence in national leadership decisions and development priorities.

He framed the initiative as both a vehicle for supporting Ruto’s re-election and a longer-term platform to advance the region’s interests beyond the 2027 ballot.
