Meru CEC Nominee Makes Grand Entrance with Helicopter Arrival for Swearing in

Joy Karthiwa Kiugu, the nominated County Executive Commissioner (CEC), landed in a helicopter ahead of her swearing-in ceremony on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.

Karthiwa’s nomination was approved by the country assembly on Tuesday, which followed the resignation of Isaac Kinoti Marete.

The 32-year-old will join Governor Isaac Mutuma’s 10-member cabinet as he begins his tenure at the helm of Meru County.

Mutuma was sworn in as the new Governor on March 17 following the impeachment of former Meru governor Kwawira Mwangaza.

Kathirwa has a Master’s degree in MSc- Management Information Systems from JKUAT and a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (BCom) from the University of Nairobi.

The other CEC’s include Monica Kathono, Dennis Mugambi, Carol Kaberia, Esther Rukunga and Maranya Mari.

The 10-member cabinet’s work is to implement national legislation within the county and manage and coordinate functions in the county.

They also prepare proposed legislation for consideration by the County Assembly.
