A tragic road accident in the Githurai area, Nairobi, left one person dead and several injured.
The incident which happened on Wednesday, May 7, in the morning occurred when a matatu travelling from Nairobi’s central business district to Thika lost brakes and collided with a motorcycle carrying a pillion passenger.
The exact cause of the driver losing control is yet to be established.
According to Kasarani Sub-County Police Commander Emmanuel Rono, three passengers were seriously injured while nine others were treated for minor injuries and transported to Kenyatta National Hospital for treatment.
More reports indicate that the matatu driver was trying to avoid a minor accident between a pickup and a motorcycle when he crashed into the vendors by the roadside.
“The matatu was coming from town, heading towards Thika. Upon reaching Githurai, it hit a motorcycle that had a woman and a few items, including a goat heads” one of the witnesses told the press.
The incident caused transport and business operations to be paralysed, with many eager to rescue operations.
