Kimani Mbugua’s father has ruled out pursuing legal action against the facility where the late journalist spent his final moments, citing CCTV footage that confirmed he took his own life.
Speaking on Tuesday, October 21, the grieving father opened up about his son’s final days, describing the painful process of coming to terms with the circumstances surrounding his death at just 29 years old.
He explained that the unpredictable nature of bipolar disorder made managing his son’s condition extremely difficult, even during periods when he seemed to be recovering.

He moreover revealed that the family had decided against pursuing legal action after reviewing surveillance footage from the Amina Rescue Center in Mombasa, where Kimani had been receiving treatment.
In an emotional revelation, Kimani’s father shared his son’s final message, offering a glimpse into the deep mental anguish he was experiencing.
Despite the tragic outcome, Kimani’s father said their recent conversations had given him hope for his son’s recovery.
The young journalist had spoken with renewed determination, expressing his desire to rebuild his life and resume his media career once he regained stability.
Kimani passed away on October 15 at the Mombasa facility, where he had been receiving treatment for mental health challenges.
His death came after years of battling bipolar disorder, which significantly impacted his once-promising media career.
