Ichung’wah Points to Gachagua Ally in Southern Bypass Disruption

Kikuyu Member of Parliament (MP) Kimani Ichung’wah has accused former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua of orchestrating the early morning blockade of the Southern Bypass.

In an statement on his social media account, the lawmaker named a well-known mobiliser from Ruai as the key operative on the ground, claiming the individual acted under Gachagua’s direct instructions.

The blockade, which reportedly occurred between 5:30am and 6am, saw trailers and bonfires used to shut down the busy road in the Thogoto Kiamburi area, the PCEA entrance in Kikuyu, and Gitaru, bringing traffic to a complete standstill.

According to reports, the blockade denied residents access to Kikuyu Town which was blocked at the railway bridge, while the Dagoretti-Kikuyu road was similarly shut down.

As a result, some motorists and pedestrians reported being attacked, with an initial absence of police at the affected locations.

Ichung’wah stated that the blockade was a deliberate act of self-inflicted chaos designed to give Gachagua grounds to allege that the government was blocking his United Opposition’s planned political tour of the area.

“To justify his fake allegations of self-inflicted violence and desire for anarchy, Gachagua, this morning at 5:30am-6am, using his known thug and mobiliser, attempted to blockade the Southern Bypass,” part of the statement read.

“We shall not allow anarchy and disruption of business in our town and country to satisfy the thirst for bloodshed of a vile man out for revenge at the expense of the people”, the statement added.
