Hojlund Saves Manchester United a Point in Injury Time

Rasmus Hojlund’s injury-time goal secured a point for Manchester United, dealing a setback to Bournemouth’s hopes of European qualification after they were reduced to 10 men.

Andoni Iraola’s team seemed destined for victory when Antoine Semenyo scored his 11th goal of the season midway through the first half.

However, the match took a dramatic turn when referee Peter Bankes upgraded Evanilson’s 70th-minute challenge on Noussair Mazraoui from a yellow card to a red card following a video assistant referee (VAR) review. Although Evanilson appeared to slip while challenging the United defender, the decision resulted in a three-match ban for him.

As United pushed for an equalizer, Mason Mount’s shot was deflected wide, but Hojlund capitalized on Manuel Ugarte’s effort, turning it in from close range after Ugarte was set up by Luke Shaw.

This result lifts Manchester United to 14th place in the Premier League, although their primary focus is now on Thursday’s Europa League semi-final first leg against Athletic Bilbao.

This draw is particularly disappointing for Bournemouth, as they remain behind Fulham and Brighton in the race for an eighth-place finish, which would secure a spot in next season’s UEFA Conference League if Crystal Palace doesn’t win the FA Cup.
