Renowned Kenyan artist Kevin Bahati has disclosed that he intends to run for the Mathare Parliamentary seat in the 2027 general elections.
The musician made the declaration during a recent interview on the Mic Cheque podcast.
“I am the next Member of Parliament for Mathare. The seat is just for the sake that you can have an office where you can represent your matters to the government. They listen to you when you have that position,” Bahati declared.

Bahati had previously attempted to secure the seat but he faced some challenges along the way.
Talking of why he initially decided to enter politics, the artist made it clear that his motivation was never about the salary that comes with the MP role.
According to him, his decision to run was driven by his desire to serve the people of Mathare.
Bahati moreover shared that he believes the constituency has immense potential but faces a shortage of opportunities.
“For me, it was not about politics. When I decided I wanted to vie, I was so afraid of the government of the day and that is why I decided to go to Jubilee. I just wanted to get a way to go to Parliament to help our people,” he shared.
He explained that as 2027 draws closer, his goal remains to empower the youth, emphasising that his business ventures, including his betting company, are part of his broader vision to uplift young people in the community that helped shape him.
However Bahati did not disclose which political party he will run with.
