Former Deputy President and Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has raised concerns over an alleged plan to take over part of Muthaiga Golf Club.
In a statement, Gachagua noted that he had been contacted by members of the club who expressed concern after senior Kenya Forest Service (KFS) officials visited the facility and claimed that part of the golf course falls within Karura Forest.
Gachagua alleged that President William Ruto was behind the move and accused his administration of targeting land belonging to both public and private entities.

He said the development had shocked club members, particularly after KFS officials reportedly arrived at the facility accompanied by dogs.
Gachagua argued that Muthaiga Golf Club had existed since before Kenya attained independence and questioned why the facility was now facing claims over its land.
He also invoked Kenya’s history, noting that successive presidents, including Jomo Kenyatta, Daniel arap Moi, Mwai Kibaki and Uhuru Kenyatta, had not sought to interfere with the golf club.
According to Gachagua, Kibaki played golf at Muthaiga before becoming president and continued visiting the club while in office.
He further accused Ruto of expanding his alleged interest in land beyond public property to privately owned land.
Gachagua warned KFS officials involved in the matter that they could face consequences in the future, linking his warning to the 2027 General Election.
He also claimed that other golf courses across the country were facing similar threats, although he did not name the facilities.
The former Deputy President stated that he would support members of Muthaiga Golf Club in opposing any attempt to take over the disputed section.
His remarks come amid a dispute over the boundaries of Muthaiga Golf Club and the neighbouring Karura Forest, with the matter raising questions over the ownership and historical status of the contested section.
