President William Ruto is set to depart for the United States later this week to attend the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
The announcement was made on Thursday, September 17, 2026, by Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs Korir Sing’Oei during a media briefing.
“I am pleased to announce that the President has agreed to attend the UNGA, and therefore we are here to inform you that the President will be departing the capital later this week,” Sing’Oei said.
Ruto is set to fly out of the country in September 20
According to the PS, Ruto will also use the visit to lobby for the appointment of several Kenyans to select United Nations positions.
Additionally, he will meet with Kenyans living in the United States, where the Kenya Diaspora Impact Platform (KDIP) will be launched to strengthen engagement with the diaspora and support investment.
According to reports, the platform is intended to provide a framework for sustained dialogue between the government and Kenyans abroad, while creating opportunities for diaspora investment and participation in national development initiatives.
The Kenyan Embassy in Washington, D.C. said KDIP will provide a platform for diaspora perspectives to inform national development partnerships.
Furthermore, the platform is scheduled to be unveiled on September 20 during Ruto’s engagement with Kenyans at 30 Hudson Yards in New York.
