Users of Meta-owned Facebook experienced disruptions on Sunday, July 20, after the platform became inaccessible on desktop browsers.
The outage, which began around mid-morning, prevented users from accessing their accounts, with many instead seeing a notice stating that their accounts were temporarily unavailable due to a site issue.
The error message indicated that the issue was expected to be resolved shortly and advised users to try accessing their accounts again after a few minutes.

The disruption appeared to affect Facebook’s desktop version, while the mobile application continued functioning normally for many users.
As of the time of publication, Meta had not issued an official statement explaining the cause of the outage.
Meanwhile, users from different parts of the world reported the problem on outage-tracking platform DownDetector, where complaints quickly surged.
Some users also indicated that the disruption appeared to extend to other Meta-owned platforms, including Instagram, although the extent of the issue remained unclear.
