The Linda Mwananchi movement has claimed that its efforts to register as a political party have been frustrated by the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP).
Speaking during a rally in Taita Taveta on Saturday, July 18, the outfit’s spokesperson and Suba South MP Caroli Omondi alleged that the registrar’s office had blocked attempts to register the proposed Linda Mwananchi Party.
Omondi further accused President William Ruto of directing the ORPP to prevent the group from obtaining official recognition ahead of the 2027 General Election.

He argued that the registrar had no legal basis to deny the group the use of the name “Linda Mwananchi” under the Political Parties Act.
The legislator also warned that members of the movement would visit the registrar’s office this week to push for the approval of the party name.
Citing the political struggles of ODM leader Raila Odinga during the Moi era, Omondi said the movement would not be intimidated or abandon its quest to register the party.
Linda Mwananchi is largely made up of self-declared ODM rebels who have opposed the party leadership’s cooperation with President Ruto’s administration.
The movement has intensified efforts to attract ODM members ahead of the 2027 elections and has floated Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as its preferred presidential candidate.
