DCI Links Fugitive Inspector to Dr Victoria Mutiso Murder

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are pursuing a police inspector believed to have played a central role in the murder of psychologist Dr Victoria Mutiso.

Investigators are now linking senior police officers to what they describe as a carefully coordinated assassination over a longstanding land dispute.

Speaking during a press briefing at Magereza House on Friday, August 7, DCI Director Mohamed Amin revealed that the inspector, attached to Nderi Police Post under Kikuyu Police Station, had been identified as the link between the financiers of the murder and the hit squad that executed the killing.

According to the DCI boss, ballistic analysis had established that a Jericho pistol recovered from Nderi Police Post was the murder weapon.

The firearm, investigators said, had been officially issued to the police inspector who is now on the run.

The DCI have since arrested two suspects, including a police constable attached to Karinde Police Post, also under Kikuyu Police Station, who investigators say was the gunman.

Forensic analysis and other evidence placed the officer at the scene, with detectives identifying him as the person who fatally shot Dr Mutiso.

During the operation, investigators recovered two spent cartridges from the crime scene, while a bullet head was retrieved during the postmortem examination, providing crucial forensic evidence that linked the recovered pistol to the shooting.

Amin said detectives pieced together the case through forensic analysis, CCTV footage and intelligence gathered from multiple security agencies, leading them to key suspects believed to have orchestrated the murder.

“Investigations led our officers to serving police officers who, unfortunately, played very critical roles in the conspiracy. A police inspector, the officer in charge of Nderi Police Post under Kikuyu Police Station, has been positively identified as the link between the financiers and the operational team, as well as the source of the murder weapon,” Amin said.
