Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has unveiled plans for a nationwide crackdown on political goons, following a surge in violence that marred by-elections in various regions on Thursday, November 27, 2025.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony of over 6,000 Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs at the National Police College Embakasi ‘A’ Campus in Nairobi on December 1, Murkomen described the rise in political violence as “unacceptable.”
He attributed the rising trend of goon mobilisation to political leaders who allegedly hire armed youth to influence public gatherings.

The CS warned that these groups, often armed with machetes and rungus, have made it increasingly difficult for chiefs and assistant chiefs to manage events, including funerals, due to growing insecurity.
Murkomen went on to praise President Ruto for making history as the first President to preside over the graduation of chiefs since independence.
He also highlighted findings from the Jukwaa La Usalama report, which revealed gaps in the administrative sector, including inadequate training for chiefs.
Murkomen said he had coordinated with Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to prioritise the elimination of goons in the coming months, emphasizing that the crackdown would be carried out uniformly across all regions.
