Manchester United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir has joined Spanish La Liga side Celta Vigo on a season-long loan for the 2026/27 campaign, bringing an end to his three-year spell at Old Trafford for now.
United confirmed the move on Friday, August 7, with the transfer subject to registration. The 28-year-old Turkey international joined Manchester United from Fenerbahce in 2023 and made 17 appearances for the club across all competitions.
Bayindir made six appearances for United during the 2025/26 season as competition for the goalkeeper position limited his opportunities. His departure to Celta provides him with an opportunity to pursue more regular first-team football in Spain.

The Turkish goalkeeper initially arrived at Old Trafford as competition for the No. 1 position after establishing himself at Fenerbahce. However, he largely operated as a backup during his time in England, making his move to Celta an important opportunity to gain consistent playing time.
Celta Vigo finished sixth in La Liga last season and will compete in the UEFA Europa League during the 2026/27 campaign, giving Bayindir the possibility of playing European football alongside domestic competition. The club is coached by Claudio Giraldez.
Celta reportedly have an option to make the transfer permanent at the end of the loan, with ESPN reporting the figure at around £3.5 million. The Spanish club is also reported to be covering Bayindir’s wages during the loan spell.
The move is part of continued changes to Manchester United’s goalkeeping department as the club reshapes its squad ahead of the new season.
Bayindir will now begin a new chapter in Spain, where regular football at Celta Vigo could give the Turkey international an opportunity to rebuild his momentum and establish himself as a first-choice goalkeeper.
