At least 17 estates in Nairobi are set to experience significant water supply disruptions after the Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) announced an emergency shutdown following a major pipeline leak.
In a public notice, the water utility said the interruption was caused by a major leakage on the NCT Fresh Water Pipeline at Riabai, near Kirigiti in Kiambu County, forcing the temporary closure of the Kigoro-Gigiri transmission pipeline.
According to the water company, water supply will resume progressively once the emergency repair works are completed.

The affected areas are expected to experience either low water pressure or a complete interruption during the exercise.
“We wish to notify our customers of a temporary water supply interruption affecting several residential and commercial areas within Nairobi City County. The interruption is due to a major leakage detected on the NCT Fresh Water Pipeline at Riabai, near Kirigiti, in Kiambu County,” the water utility announced.
The estates affected include Westlands, Lavington, Kilimani, Upper Hill, Ngong Road, Madaraka, Lang’ata, Karen, Uthiru, Kawangware, Kangemi, Kibra, Ruai, Ngundu, and Kamulu, as well as customers served by MAVWASCO and Oloolaiser Water Company.
The water company has advised households, institutions, and businesses within the affected areas to store enough water for domestic and commercial use ahead of the repairs.
