More than 200 people arrested during the June 25 Gen Z anniversary demonstrations have been released on a cash bail of Ksh1,000.
In a statement issued on Friday, June 26, Siaya Governor James Orengo said the release was secured through a joint legal effort involving Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Faith Odhiambo and a team of advocates.
Orengo also announced that a mother who had been detained alongside her seven-month-old baby was released unconditionally.

The governor commended the legal team for facilitating the release of the protesters and lauded the judiciary for upholding constitutional rights and ensuring due process in handling the cases.
He further said the courts had demonstrated their independence by making decisions guided by the law rather than political considerations.
The releases come a day after Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen announced that 355 people had been arrested across the country during the demonstrations.
According to Murkomen, Nairobi recorded the highest number of arrests at 161, followed by Kajiado with 123 and Kiambu with 36.
Other arrests were reported in Murang’a (12), Bungoma (9), Meru (6), Laikipia (5) and Machakos (3), while no arrests were recorded in the North Eastern, Nyanza and Coast regions.
Murkomen said those arrested would face charges including robbery, vandalism, obstruction of roads and attempted theft.
He also commended police officers involved in the operation, saying they conducted themselves professionally and responded promptly to public concerns throughout the demonstrations.
