Nairobi and Kisumu residents have been urged to brace for water disruptions from Friday, September 11, 2026.
The two cities are expected to undertake repair and infrastructure improvement works.
The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) on Thursday, September 10, announced a shutdown of the Sasumua Water Treatment Plant to facilitate emergency repairs along the Sasumua-Kabete pipeline.
“Nairobi wishes to inform the public of a scheduled shutdown of the Sasumua Water Treatment Plant to facilitate emergency repair works along the Sasumua-Kabete pipeline,” the company stated.
The water disruption is scheduled to begin at 6am on Friday, September 11, and continue until 8am on Saturday, September 12, resulting in about 26 hours of disrupted supply.
On the other hand, the Kisumu Water and Sanitation Company (KIWASCO) said water supply will be interrupted between 8am and 8am on Friday, September 11.
The company said the interruption will facilitate the construction of meter chambers and trial pits as well as the installation of valves and meters to improve the performance of the water supply system.
“This scheduled disruption is necessary for the construction of meter chambers, trial pits, and the installation of valves and meters to enhance system performance,” KIWASCO stated.
Therefore residents in both cities have been advised to store sufficient water before the scheduled works begin and plan accordingly to minimise the impact of the disruptions.
