Local political rivalries came to the fore during a church service attended by President William Ruto in Gatundu North on Sunday, December 14.
The president joined Kiambu leaders and residents of Karure for the service at the AIPCA Gatundu North Diocese.
During political remarks at the event, Gatundu North MP Njoroge Kururia appeared to endorse Thika Town MP Alice Ng’ang’a as Kiambu’s next governor, referring to her as the incoming county chief.

Ng’ang’a and incumbent Governor Kimani Wamatangi have publicly declared their intention to face off in the Kiambu gubernatorial race in 2027.
Kururia further drew attention by introducing Wamatangi as the outgoing Kiambu governor while inviting him to address the congregation, a move widely interpreted as an endorsement of Ng’ang’a.
Taking to the podium, the county boss addressed key development issues affecting the county before turning his attention to the remarks made by the MP, which he viewed as dismissive.
Wamatangi later delved into Kiambu’s political landscape, asserting that his leadership record had met the expectations of county residents.
He maintained that his performance in office justified his bid for re-election, expressing confidence in the support of the Kiambu electorate.
Governor Wamatangi urged his political rivals to focus on service delivery and defer political contests until 2027, asserting his readiness to face them when the time comes.
He appeared to take aim at MP Njoroge Kururia for downplaying his political influence, emphasizing that he remains the incumbent governor and confident in retaining his seat.
Wamatangi also challenged his supporters to back his claim of political strength.
