At least 10 people have been confirmed dead following a tragic road accident at Chabera along the Kisii–Kisumu highway on Sunday night, December 14.
The fatal crash involved two lorries and a private van, leaving several other passengers with injuries. The injured were rushed to various health facilities within the region for treatment.
Preliminary reports indicate that the private van was ferrying a family travelling to Nyamaiya in Nyamira County after attending a wedding in Kakamega County.

Following the incident, Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga issued a statement conveying her condolences to the families who lost their loved ones.
Governor Wanga directed all county emergency services to coordinate with national authorities in the rescue operations and to ensure full support for the injured and bereaved families.
She noted that investigations into the cause of the accident were ongoing.
The county boss also urged road users to exercise extreme caution and prioritise safety while on the roads, as she expressed solidarity with the affected families and the people of Homa Bay County.
