Kibera Soccer Women’s title race encountered a setback after they fought to a 1-1 draw against Vihiga Queens in an FKF Women Premier League (WPL) match on Sunday, March 30, at Moi Stadium in Kisumu.
Before the match, Kibera Soccer was leading the 12-team league table with 37 points, just one point ahead of second-placed Kenya Police Bullets, and four points ahead of both Vihiga Queens and Ulinzi Starlets, all having played 17 matches.
In this crucial match, Vihiga Queens welcomed Kibera Soccer Women FC to a challenging duel that would significantly influence the title race, especially with Kenya Police Bullets FC as the defending champion.
The match began with high intensity, as both teams played cautiously at the back to avoid conceding an early goal while also seeking to gain an advantage by scoring first. However, neither team managed to break the deadlock until the 30-minute mark.
In-form striker Faith Mboya scored the opening goal with a brilliant strike, marking her ninth goal of the league and giving Kibera Soccer the lead.
The hosts responded quickly, pushing hard for an equalizer, but the league leaders maintained their advantage up to halftime.
In the second half, Vihiga continued their aggressive play, launching more attacks, while Kibera opted to focus on containing the game and neutralizing the threats.

Their efforts paid off in the 71st minute when Christine Adhiambo equalized for Vihiga, striking clinically from the edge of the box.
With the match now evenly balanced, both teams pressed for a winning goal to secure an advantage over each other. However, the game ultimately concluded in a disappointing draw for both sides.
