A 17-year-old boy was shot dead in Gikomba, Majengo, during a police patrol.
The incident that happened on Tuesday, March 3, 2025, at night, was triggered by a group of youths who were stopped for a random search for suspicion of drug trafficking.
This led the target suspect, who was part of the group to raise an alarm and call for help from another group.
The group reportedly attacked and overpowered the officers, which forced one of them to open fire for protection, which resulted in the death of the form three student who was coming from the mosque for night prayers.
Videos of the night’s shocking incident emerged online, showing the boy dressed in white Kanzu with his lifeless body lying on the ground.
As residents gathered closer to the deceased, a woman was seen holding the boy while she cried, urging for a car/ambulance to be brought.
This angered the residents so much that they launched a protest against the police.
The protest resulted in the area chief’s office being set on fire, two police vehicles being torched, and houses belonging to the police.
