Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has fulfilled his pledge days artificial eye transplant surgery to the woman who lost her eye due to a hyena attack.
Taking to his social media account X, Sonko announced that the first stage of the eye surgery to the woman, Irene Mbithe was a success.
“The first process of artificial eye surgery transplant for Irene Wambua Mbithe (the lady who was attacked by hyenas) was successful at the Lions’ First Sight Eye Hospital”, Sonko stated.
The former Nairobi Governor came to the rescue of Irene after she was featured on Citizen TV, who narrated how she was attacked by the hyena and lost her left eye and left limb.
The victim revealed that the attack happened six years ago at the Tsavo National Park after she was dumped by a truck.
“While I was trying to escape, it grabbed me by my arm, dragged me to the fence, and ate my hand as I watched”, she narrated painfully.
Sonko was touched by the story and reached out to Irene, he therefore promised to settle her three months’ rent and help with her treatment, which included the eye transplant.
