Manchester United have reached an agreement with Italian club Atalanta to sign Brazilian midfielder Ederson in a deal worth approximately £35 million, with additional performance-related bonuses potentially increasing the total value to nearly £39 million. The move is expected to become the club’s first major signing under new manager Michael Carrick.
The 26-year-old midfielder has reportedly agreed personal terms with the Premier League giants and is expected to sign a long-term contract running until 2030, with an option for a further year. The transfer is now awaiting the completion of a medical examination before being officially announced.
Ederson has impressed during his time at Atalanta, establishing himself as one of Serie A’s most dynamic midfielders. Known for his ability to win possession, carry the ball forward, and contribute in both defensive and attacking phases, he is viewed as a key addition to United’s midfield rebuild.
Ederson enjoyed an impressive 2025/26 campaign with Atalanta, making over 40 appearances across all competitions. The Brazilian midfielder was one of the club’s most consistent performers, contributing with crucial goals, assists, and defensive interventions. His ability to break up opposition attacks, recover possession, and drive forward with the ball earned him widespread praise in Serie A.
The Brazilian international is expected to help fill the void left by departing midfielder Casemiro, whose contract at Old Trafford recently expired. United have been monitoring Ederson for more than a year and believe his versatility and work rate make him an ideal fit for Carrick’s tactical plans.
Manchester United are also expected to remain active in the transfer market as they continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season and their return to the UEFA Champions League.
