Former President Uhuru Kenyatta hosted a delegation from the European Institute of Peace (EIP) led by Senior Advisor Hilde F. Johnson.
The event which took place onf Friday, April 17, 2025 forms part of ongoing efforts to address the conflict in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
According to a post on his social media account, he also held talks with Freddy Nkurikiye, a Peace and Security Advisor to Faure Gnassingbé, at his Gatundu residence.
“Former President H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta yesterday held separate engagements at his Gatundu residence, hosting a delegation from the European Institute of Peace (EIP) led by Senior Advisor Hilde F. Johnson”, the statement read on Uhuru’s post.
“He also met with Freddy Nkurikiye, a Peace and Security Advisor to Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, who paid him a courtesy call. Both meetings focused on ongoing peace efforts in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)”, the statement added.
Kenyatta remains a key figure in regional peace efforts as the Facilitator of the East African Community-led Nairobi Peace Process, where he has been spearheading dialogue between the DRC government and various armed groups.
The role of the former President has involved convening high-level negotiations, coordinating regional stakeholders, and pushing for ceasefire agreements and political settlements aimed at restoring stability in the volatile eastern region.
