Authorities Nab Alleged Mobiliser Behind Yala Demonstrations

The Directorate of Criminal Investiagations (DCI) have apprehended a suspected mobiliser in connection with the violent demonstrations witnessed in Yala on April 6, 2026.

According to a statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), on April 18, 2926, officers acted on intelligence to raid a local drinking establishment in Ramula, where the suspect was apprehended.

“Acting on pinpoint intelligence, the detectives raided a local drinking den in Ramula where the suspect, 30-year-old Silas Asitiba, was apprehended”, part of the statement read.

The arrest is said to be part of the ongoing investigations into incidents of public disorder that resulted in property damage and operational disruptions at Ramula Police Post.

The DCI revealed that the 30-year-old suspect may have played a role in mobilising a group of individuals who were reportedly among those that took part in the demonstrations that later turned violent.

The group is believed to have engaged in acts that are said to have escalated into criminal conduct, including destruction of property and confrontation with law enforcement officers.

The suspect is currently in custody pending arraignment in court.

The authorities have also confirmed that follow-up operations are underway to identify and apprehend additional individuals thought to have been involved in organising and supporting the unrest.

They have therefore urged members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement as investigations continue.

“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) advises the public to refrain from participating in unlawful demonstrations. While the right to picket is constitutionally guaranteed, the transition into criminality, hooliganism, and the targeting of police installations will be met with the full force of the law”, the statement added.
