The Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) has directed the immediate closure of all campuses operated by the Kenya Institute of Management (KIM) across the country.
In a statement issued on Monday, April 20, the regulator cited concerns that the institution has been operating without the required accreditation.
TVETA noted that although KIM had initially been approved to offer programmes examined and certified by the TVET Curriculum Development Assessment and Certification Council, findings from recent investigations indicated that the institution continued to operate beyond the scope of this approval.

The authority further stated that KIM has been offering unapproved programmes and issuing academic qualifications in breach of the TVET Act Cap 210A.
Moreover, TVETA reported that the institution had engaged trainers who lacked valid training licences, in violation of the same legal framework.
The authority also cautioned the public over the legitimacy of qualifications issued by the Kenya Institute of Management (KIM), noting that the institution does not have the legal mandate to award academic or professional certifications.
As a result, any certificates, diplomas, or other qualifications obtained from the institution beyond 2018 are not recognized for employment, further studies, or professional advancement.
In a decisive step, TVETA confirmed that KIM’s accreditation has been fully revoked, effectively bringing all its operations across the country to an immediate halt.
The action was taken in line with the provisions of the TVET Act Cap 210A, under which the authority withdrew the institution’s accreditation and ordered the closure of all its campuses nationwide.
TVETA further urged prospective students and the general public to exercise caution when choosing training institutions.
The authority advised individuals to verify the accreditation status of any institution before enrolling in a programme and warned against engaging with the Kenya Institute of Management (KIM) in light of the recent enforcement action.
