TikTok Removes Over 334,000 Harmful Videos in Kenya

Over 334,000 videos removed from TikTok.

Popular social media platform TikTok has disclosed that it took off over 334,000 videos in Kenya which violated its community guidelines.

The move came from TikTok’s latest Q3 community guidelines enforcement report which was released on Thursday 6th February 2024 to ensure a safe and reliable digital space for all its users.

According to reports, 88.9% were removed before they could be viewed by other users while 93% were taken down within 24 hours of posting.

“These actions are critical to combating misinformation and fraud, helping Kenyan users engage in a reliable and credible online space” TikTok representative stated to newsroom.

More additional 99.99 % of harmful videos to users mental and behavioral health was also removed before being reported while 94.6 were removed 24 hours later from he platform.

“Globally, TikTok removed over 147 million videos during the same period, with 118 million detected and removed through automated systems. These efforts demonstrate a proactive detection rate of 98.2%, setting a high standard for content moderation worldwide” He added.

The representative further stated that TikTok’s mission is to inspire creativity and bring by its commitment to user safety and content integrity.
