A lorry has reportedly overturned near China Square along Thika Road, blocking the Nairobi-bound section of the busy highway and disrupting traffic flow in the area.
According to images seen by Whisperswire, a white lorry lying on the section of the highway.
According to reports, members of the public attempted rescue operations, further disrupting traffic along the Nairobi-bound section of Thika Road.
A car branded with the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) logo can also be spotted just beside the overturned lorry.
The incident has reportedly affected motorists travelling towards Nairobi, with drivers advised to use the service lane to bypass the blocked section.
Further footage shows motorists using road shoulders as they attempt to navigate around the congestion and reach their destinations.
The traffic jam stretches about two kilometres from Kenyatta University to Kahawa Barracks, while traffic flows smoothly around Githurai.
So far, the cause of the accident has not yet been established.
