Key suspect in the murder of MP Were, businessman Philip Aroko, has been granted cash bail of Ksh300,000.
While delivering the ruling, Principal Magistrate Irene Gichobi imposed several conditions on Aroko’s release.
The court directed Aroko to surrender his passport to the court and prohibited him from travelling to Homa Bay, the Home County of the late MP Were.
The court also restricted him from contacting family members, other suspects or any individuals associated with the case.

The court further directed the suspect to refrain from interfering with any evidence that could be critical to the ongoing investigation.
As part of the bail conditions, he is also required to report regularly to investigating officers and to provide any evidence needed in connection with the case.
Aroko is among the 11 suspects who are under investigation for the murder of MP Charles Were.
The case has so far been scheduled to be mentioned on June 3, 2025.
