Starlink has expanded its global reach to Somalia.
The satellite, which is owned by the world’s richest man, Elon Musk, operates in over 100 countries globally.
Musk announced on his social media platform X but did not give further details.
“Starlink now in Somalia”, he stated.
The satellite has access to several undersea internet cables and expands connectivity to the country’s more remote and underserved regions.
Now that Starlink’s site is present in Somalia, it will be expected to expand connectivity to remote and underserved regions in Somalia.
Its growing footprint in Africa reflects a wider push to enhance internet access across the continent.
So far, just 40% of the 1.3 billion population is online, the lowest internet penetration rate in the world.
The satellite has faced regulatory hurdles in some countries such as South Africa, where it remains unavailable, being the continent’s most industrialized economy.
