Starlink and Airtel Ink Deal to Enhance Internet Reach

Airtel has sealed a deal with Spacex to roll out Starlink’s high-speed satellite internet across nine of its African markets.

The main aim of the partnership will be to boost connectivity in remote areas where regular mobile networks can’t reach.

So far, licences have already been secured in 9 of Airtel’s 14 operating countries.

Apart from Kenya, other countries that Airtel operates in includes Chad, Congo, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon, Madagascar, Malawi, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sychelles, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.

The two companies aim to deliver faster, more reliable internet to hard-to-reach communities.

The partnership will mean that Airtel subscribers in undeserved regions, including rural schools, health centres and small businesses, could soon enjoy better Internet access.

Starlink was launched in Kenya in July 2023 and has since garnered close to 20,000 subscribers.

During its entry, the satellite gained 1.1% market share and has since been increasing its profit value.
