Sports Kenya has confirmed the indefinite closure of the Moi International Sports Centre (MISC), Kasarani, to allow for major renovations.
In a circular issued by Sports Kenya Director General Timothy Kilimo, all sports federations were informed that the stadium will undergo Phase II upgrading works in preparation for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027.
The renovations aim to ensure that MISC Kasarani meets international standards ahead of the tournament.

Kilimo also confirmed that the contractor has already mobilized on site, with renovation works scheduled to begin in February 2026.
Apart from the main stadium, all surrounding facilities within the Kasarani complex will also remain closed during the renovation period.
Sports Kenya has advised federations and event organizers to relocate all upcoming events to alternative venues.
This includes Kenyan Premier League matches, as the stadium serves as the home ground for two football clubs.
Kasarani Stadium had previously suffered some damage in 2025 during the body-viewing ceremony of the late Raila Odinga.
The Nyayo International Stadium will also remain closed to allow for its own renovation works.
Both venues are set to host matches for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027, alongside the 60,000-seater Talanta City Sports Stadium.
Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya provided an update on Talanta Stadium’s construction, confirming that the facility is now 80 percent complete.
