The family of National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi is mourning the death of their elder brother, James Mukhwana Wetang’ula.

Wanyonyi announced the loss through a statement shared on X on Wednesday, December 10, describing the passing as a painful moment for the family while expressing gratitude to God for his brother’s life.

He referenced a biblical message of thanksgiving in difficult times and remembered James as a courageous man whose legacy would continue to inspire and guide the family.

Wetang’ula described his late brother as an exceptional individual whose humility, discipline, and wisdom had a profound impact on many people.

He highlighted that James was a devoted father, a mentor, and a strong pillar of the community, adding that his legacy as an educator and family man would continue to live on in their hearts.

The speaker went on to appeal for prayers and support as the family mourns and celebrates his life, and expressed wishes for his brother to rest in eternal peace.

The late matriarch was widely eulogised as a respected figure who left a lasting mark on society and played a significant role in mentoring many leaders and community members throughout her life.

The loss comes nearly a year after the family suffered another bereavement with the passing of their mother.
