Sing’oei Refutes Claims of Backing U.S. Position on Middle East

President William Ruto’s administration has retained its neutral position on the escalating Middle East conflict following criticism by the Iranian government.

This follows accusations from the Iranian Embassy in Nairobi that the Kenyan government is allegedly siding with the United States and Israel in the ongoing war.

In a statement on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, the Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’oei clarified that Kenya remains committed to the principles of the United Nations Charter, including respect for sovereignty and peaceful conflict resolution.

According to the PS, Kenya was non-aligned in the conflict.

The country’s main concern was safeguarding its national interests, such as energy security, trade routes and the welfare of Kenyans living in the Gulf region.

“We emphasise that Kenya remains non-aligned in the conflict. We prioritise Kenyan interests, including energy security, trade, and citizens in the Gulf. We stand in solidarity with all nations which have borne a huge toll as a consequence of this escalating conflict”, Korir stated.

The remarks comes after the Iranian embassy in Nairobi on Tuesday evening criticised Kenya for allegedly condemning Terah’s aggression on Gulf countries.

Iran argued that Nairobi’s position overlooked key aspects of international law, with Iran placing blame on the United States and Israel, accusing them of initiating aggression in the region.
